Methodist
ministers to move
Later this year, members of local Methodist congregations
will say goodbye to their reverends and welcoming new
ones. Thanks to a decision made at this year's regional
Conference of Methodist Churches, the territory's three
Methodist reverends will be on the move.
Together, the reverends share responsibilities for serving
parishioners at all of the territory's 13 Methodist
churches, or about 1,500 parishioners. Supervisor of
the BVI Methodist Circuit Rev. E. Lloyd Brissette said
last week that each reverend's appointment lasts a year.
"[One year appointments] are part of the itinerary
system inherited from the mother church in Great Britain,"
he said. "There is always the possibility that
one could be transferred."
But Rev. Brissette said the fact that all three reverends
are leaving is unusual. Rev. Brissette, who is the pastor
at Methodist Churches in Road Town, Sea Cows Bay, Purcell
Estate and Long Look, will be moving on to the Dutch
side of St. Martin.
Aside from Rev Brissette, Rev. Pat Moore-Henry and Rev.
Myrna Lake will also be on the move. Rev. Moore-Henry
oversees churches in at Zion Hill West End, Carrot Bay,
Cane Garden Bay, Jost Van Dyke and Anegada, while Rev.
Lake is currently responsible for Methodist churches
in East End, Belle View, Virgin Gorda and North Sound.
Rev. Moore-Henry will be moving to Curaco while Rev.
Lake will be moving on to Holland.
