The first cohort of officers from the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service to arrive here after Hurricane Irma left the territory this week.

“You were first officers to hit the ground and join forces with my officers in restoring order and security in the territory following Hurricane Irma, and you did so with the utmost of professionalism,” Police Commissioner Michael Matthews said outside the Road Town Police Station. “I will always be grateful to the Cayman Islands government and your commissioner for allowing you to be here to give this urgent and immediate support to our officers.”

As this set of 16 officers end their three-week tour of duty, a similarly sized contingent was sworn in to carry on the work of maintaining security in the territory, police said.
