When Grammy Award-winning drummer Dion Parson was growing up on St. Thomas, there were few musical workshops to attend, but he watched musicians perform live whenever he got the chance.
That experience gave him much of the musical foundation he has now, Mr. Parson said last Thursday at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College.
He was speaking shortly after interacting with a group of nearly 50 students from Francis Lettsome Primary School, St. George’s Secondary School and Cedar International School.
Now an accomplished jazz performer, Mr. Parson said he hopes the session will inspire students to consider a life of music.
His workshop was held a day before his performance with the Dion Parson Quartet as part of the college’s 20th Performing Arts Series.
