Premier Dr. Orlando Smith provided documents last week at House of Assembly that detail the supplemental spending that took place in 2014 and 2015.

The SAPs show that $29,706,821 of supplemental spending – spending above and beyond the government’s budgeted expenses – took place in 2014, and $23,124,456 took place in 2015.

The spending included such items as software for the implementation of National Health Insurance ($2.3 million); a fence around Elmore Stoutt High School ($1.1 million); a Cadillac Escalade for the use of the premier ($96,000); and “beautification and pre-hurricane cleaning of drain and ghuts” ($1.8 million).

Government officials did not respond to inquiries about these expenditures.

The supplemental spending that took place during the previous two years is a slight downward trend to what took place in 2012 ($33 million) and 2013 ($28 million).

Legislators have yet to ratify the 2014 and 2015 SAPs.
