Twelve days after an April 20 armed robbery at a Sea Cows Bay business, police acknowledged the incident in a four-sentence message that provided few details.

“Preliminary reports indicate that around 10 p.m., two armed, masked individuals entered the premises and robbed both staff and patrons of cash and personal items,” according to a Friday message Police Information Officer Akia Thomas-Nero sent the Beacon. “Officers responded promptly and processed the scene. The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be
provided as necessary.”

Tight-lipped

Police, who frequently ask the public to help them solve crimes, did not name the business where the robbery occurred or provide any description of the suspects or what they were wearing.

BVI News reported the robbery on April 25 — five days after it took place — and this newspaper wrote Ms. Thomas-Nero the same day to try to confirm it.

She didn’t provide information about the incident until a week had passed.

Ms. Thomas-Nero didn’t answer questions about the robbery’s location, the weapons carried by the robbers, how much was stolen, why police never issued a press release, or why it took 12 days to provide basic details about the incident.
