Education officer for early childhood education Jerelyn Callwood was busy handing out hundreds of medals during Thursday’s Inter Primary Schools Athletic Championships at the A.O. Shirley Recreation Grounds.

It was her third year coordinating the event and was responsible for several tasks to make sure everything continued to run smoothly.

Eighteen schools competed in the event.

“It is an opportunity for all the schools to get together for competition, but also as a fun activity” Ms. Callwood said.

Eslyn Henley Richiez Learning Centre students also competed against each other. Teacher Francine Noel was proud of her special education students’ performances. She added that it is important that parents and the community see what the students are capable of on the track.

“We normally have a showcase,” Ms. Noel said. “I believe, soon, our students will be able to participate with the other schools. We are preparing them.”

On March 31, the EHRLC students will be back on the track competing in more events. Ms. Noel is encouraging the public to come out and support the students. Teachers are also expected to take part in the sports day.
