during the school’s 21st graduation ceremony.

At the start of the ceremony, faculty and staff marched in two lines to a tent set up on the college’s lawn, as hundreds of supporters snapped photographs and the HLSCC Jazz Band played in the background.

During the ceremony, which lasted for nearly four hours, the students were praised for their accomplishments and advised on what to expect of life and how to contribute to the community.

The top two students this year were Kladius Maynard from the Paraquita Bay campus and Alexander Parillon from the Virgin Gorda campus, both of whom earned perfect 4.0 grade point averages.

“The males in the 2014 class are showing that they have ability and they are not afraid of using it,” said Dr. Christine Hodge, associate vice president of operations.

Nevertheless, female graduates once again outnumbered their male counterparts, who made up just 28 percent of the graduating class.

Twenty-five percent of the class were honour students, and 16 percent were members of the Phi Theta Kappa Honour Society.
