After a store was robbed Oct. 15 on Lee Road in The Valley, Virgin Gorda, police on Friday charged three men arrested in connection with the crime, according to a Saturday police press release.

Tray Audain, 25, and Lekhoy Hughes, 21, both of no fixed abode, and Rakeem Lennard, 28, of North Sound, were charged, and a 15-year-old male was arrested and later discharged, the press release stated.

The press release did not say what crimes the men were charged with, and Police Officer Diane Drayton declined to comment on the charges, saying that more charges may be added later. Initial reports indicated that two masked men, both armed with guns, snatched handbags from two individuals outside the supermarket before running to the back of the store and escaping in a vehicle, according to an Oct. 16 press release.

Virgin Gorda police officers responded immediately and apprehended three men, including the driver, near a North Sound basketball court, while a fourth suspect who fled the scene was subsequently captured and arrested, according to police.

The items taken in the robbery were recovered inside the vehicle, the press release stated.

Ms. Drayton declined to comment on what items were taken and then recovered.

“Investigations are ongoing in this matter,” the press release stated.
