Police and customs officers seized 44.2 kilograms of cocaine last Thursday aboard a boat named Krautsand at Port Purcell, the Police Information Office reported.

The Guyanese news website INewsGuyana reported that the vessel was registered in Guyana and intercepted in Tortola.

The cocaine was concealed in 200 bags of thin-set cement on three pallets, according to Police Information Officer Akia Thomas.

Ms. Thomas added that the vessel came to the VI from Trinidad containing building materials. Multiple people have been interviewed, but police had not announced any arrests as of press time yesterday afternoon.

Investigations are ongoing.
