The body of a fisherman was recovered near Tortola’s north shore Monday morning, police said.
Virgin Islands Search and Rescue and members of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force began a search Sunday after two fishermen were reportedly swept out to sea while fishing near Cooper Bay, according to Police Information Officer Diane Drayton.
The search continued today with additional support from a United States Coast Guard helicopter, according to VISAR President Phil Aspinall. He said the sea conditions made the search difficult.
“Unfortunately, it’s rough as dogs out there right now,” he added.
According to Mr. Aspinall, the body was found near Anguilla Point, close to where the men had been fishing.
Ms. Drayton, who did not identify the men, said more details “will be given as they become available.”
