For Janette Legair

From the comfort of your womb

Into your precious hand

You’ve carried, held and protected

me through the journeys on this land

As you watch me grow from a babe into a woman

Courage, strength, wisdom and great love for family

Are a few of your traits that were given to me

And even your smile as big as can be

Through the joys in my ups and the pain in my downs

Also though my smiles and even when I frown

You’ve shown nothing but the true depth of a mother’s love

A precious rose, my bright star, my guardian angel

And even though at times I’ve been a bit more than a handful

In my dreams and aspirations

You’ve never been doubtful

Mother! A name to which you’ve added so much beauty and lustre

And with a love so pure and tender

Proves there’s nothing that can take the place of dearest mother!
