The Department of Disaster Management has launched its annual hurricane preparedness campaign under the theme “Get Prepared, Be Prepared.”

Forecasters are predicting a more active season than usual, with an estimated 16 named storms and nine hurricanes, five of which are predicted to be category three or larger, according to DDM.

Throughout the season, which started June 1 and continues to Nov. 30, DDM plans to partner with the media to issue public service announcements and other information.

Other activities will include a partnership with a Virgin Islands company to produce a hurricane guide, provision of information for the Spanish-speaking community, presentations to civic groups, and the use of social networking, according to DDM.
