Security at the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport on Beef Island has returned to normal levels, BVI Airports Authority Managing Director Denniston Fraser said on Tuesday.

Airport security was temporarily stepped up as a precautionary measure following a potential terrorism threat that was called in to the United States Coast Guard on April 13.

Mr. Fraser could not confirm if there was any credibility to the threat, but he said no suspicious activity was reported to the BVIAA.

However, the director still advised the public to be vigilant, and said travellers should keep their luggage and personal belongings with them at all times.

The day after the April 13 threat, John Clarke, a supervisory senior resident agent at the FBI’s office in St. Thomas, confirmed that the USCG had received a call from an individual indentifying himself as “Andrew Miller” and claiming that a friend involved with the terrorist organisation ISIS was planning an attack in the territory.

The USCG passed the information over to the FBI, which subsequently investigated along with law enforcement officials from this territory.
