A string of 40 “bad words” allegedly yelled towards police by Pockwood Pond resident Patrick Smith led Magistrate Ayanna Baptiste-DaBreo to fine him $500 on Tuesday for use of indecent language.

Mr. Smith was fined an additional $1,250 after he was found guilty of disorderly conduct, failure to provide a specimen of blood or urine, and drunkenness while in charge of a vehicle.

Mr. Baptiste-DaBreo reviewed the evidence before rendering a verdict.

The magistrate said Mr. Smith was driving his Jeep the wrong way on a one-way street near Baughers Bay when he struck another vehicle on April 20, 2013. He pulled off to the side of the road and began cursing when he saw that the other driver was on her cell phone, threatening her not to call the police, she said.

Police arrived shortly after the accident and allegedly observed Mr. Smith pacing up and down near his car.

The defendant was then asked for a blood or urine sample, but he refused, Ms. Baptiste-DaBreo said.
