The BVI Cycling Federation hosted the HLSCC/El Zorro Challenge on Sunday.

Despite heavy rain the night before the race, the weather cleared for the start of the event, which provided “good conditions,” according to an organiser.

The race was more than 11.4 miles with all the participants competing on the same course.

The race started outside of H. Lavity Stout Community College in Paraquita Bay. The cyclists then headed to East End to the Terrance B. Lettsome International airport passing the terminal and back onto the main road to the college. Once there, the riders rode back to East End taking a left at the police station on Little Dix Hill and finishing at El Zorro.

Orano Andrews and Philippe Leroy fought for first place on the long climb up Little Dix Hill, but it was Mr. Andrews who would eventually take first place.

Deraun Noel took the top spot in the Junior Division, while Ricardo Jones was unable to finish due to “equipment failure.”

The BVICF’s next event will be announced at a later date. For more information about the federation or to volunteer call 340-3999.
