After the fourth grader won his division in the National Archery in the Schools Programme Outdoor Shoot Out, he was presented with his own bow.

“He’s been asking me every now and then to buy one,” his mother Gina Callangan said. “And now look! He got one.”

Kier was among about 25 boys and girls from public and private schools across the Virgin Islands who took part in the inaugural tournament, which was hosted by the VI Archery Associationat the A.O. Shirley Recreation Grounds.

VIAA President Patrick Smith started off the event by giving the students a quick briefing before they headed out on the track.

“For many of you, this would be your first competition,” he said. “It’s a fun event, so please don’t be nervous. It’s just the beginning for bigger and better things to come.”
