The national basketball league is slated to start this weekend with an island-wide motorcade tomorrow.
The games will be played on Saturday. BVI Basketball Federation President Byron Hodge and Vice President Roy Garraway on Tuesday announced plans for this year’s league, which will honour past national team player Kenny “Funny” Thomas.
Eleven senior teams and eight junior teams will take part in the 2011 Kenny “Funny” Thomas Basketball League. They will be represented during Friday’s motorcade, which starts at 2 p.m. from the Multi-purpose Sports Complex through Road Town to Cane Garden Bay over the Ridge Road to Beef Island and back to Road Town via the coast, ending at the Digicel Flagship Store at 4 p.m.
The teams and the “Digi Girls” will be present during the march past starting at 3 p.m. on Saturday starting at the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports proceeding along the James Walter Francis Drive, around the traffic lights and to the Multi-purpose Sports Complex.
The first games on opening night include Young Guns against All Ah We; an over 40’s game – Disciples from Tortola and Gunners from St. Thomas, USVI; and the big match – 2010 champions Mega Mix versus East.
