A boat collision the evening of Oct. 16, 2021 between a 40-foot monohull and a 35-foot contender resulted in the death of Frandy Martin Jr. of Fat Hogs Bay, Police Information Officer Diane Drayton wrote in an Oct. 19 press release.

The wreck also sent five other people to the hospital and resulted in the arrest of a man who was later released, according to police.

The fatal incident occurred“sometime after” 6:15 p.m. on Oct. 16 when the monohull Blue Bayou and the contender Yeya crashed into one another near Prospect Reef, Ms. Drayton stated.

All three people aboard the contender were treated for serious injuries at Dr. Orlando Smith Hospital, and Mr. Martin eventually succumbed, Ms. Drayton stated.

She did not say whether he was the captain or a passenger.

The other two people aboard the contender — a man and a woman — were still receiving treatment as of Oct. 19.

Of five people aboard the monohull, a woman was still hospitalised as of Oct. 19, and two minors were treated and discharged, Ms. Drayton wrote.

She added that a man was arrested and later discharged “pending further investigations.”

She did not say which boat he was aboard.

“Inquiries are continuing to determine the cause of the collision,” Ms. Drayton stated.
