With music blaring and models prancing on the catwalk, Village Cay Marina was anything but peaceful on Saturday, as a crowd of boaters and boat enthusiasts gathered by the dock for the BVI Exquisite Boat Show’s concluding event.

The three-day show, which kicked off last Thursday with a Buyers Cocktail, offered boaters the opportunity to showcase their vessels and compete for a variety of titles and prizes.

Participants hailed from across the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, but it was Road Town’s own Malkin Roberts who walked away with the event’s top honour: the award for Best Overall Boat.

Event manager Meslyn Allan, who explained that the event’s three judges came from different islands to prevent nepotism, said she wasn’t surprised by their decision.

“He put quite a bit of work into his boat, so we are happy he was able to reap the benefits of it,” she said.

According to Ms. Allan, the competition was stiffer this year, as the event saw an increase in participants.

In 2014, when the inaugural show was held on Scrub Island, there were only 13 entries. This year, that number grew to 18.
