Germaine Wattley, 44, of Chapel Hill was arrested and charged with burglary and breach of curfew when he was apprehended by police on morning patrol while entering a business in the James Young area of East End, police said Tuesday.
“Around 3:45 a.m., officers glimpsed a male slipping into one of the store rooms of the establishment with a shopping bag in his hand. Once caught, the man admitted to entering illegally,” according to a police press release.
The incident was at least the fifth recent arrest related to break-ins in the Virgin Islands, and it follows reports of a spike in thefts of construction tools, police stated.
Police are again encouraging residents to lock up their tools and contractors to outfit their construction sites with CCTV, alarm systems, and other security devices.
