Bathrooms at The Baths

The long-stalled effort to build bathrooms at the top of The Baths in Virgin Gorda appears to be regaining momentum. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour recently signed a $96,417.23 contract with the firm Allen George and Alic George Construction to finish the project. The Dec. 12 contract, signed by Deputy Premier Dr. Kedrick Pickering, the NRL minister, commits the firm to finishing the work by April 23. Additionally, Dr. Pickering signed a $35,356.40 contract with the firm Biosafe Treatment and Septic Solutions to provide a wastewater treatment system for the bathrooms. According to documents on file at the High Court Registry, officials signed a $254,370.90 contract with the firm WDMO Group to construct the bathrooms in 2011, but the works stopped several months later for reasons that were never made public. The BVI Tourist Board subsequently erected temporary facilities at the site.
