Tax seminars

The Internal Revenue Department is hosting a series of seminars in June and July that aim to update the public on tax laws as well as the proper filing procedures. The seminars are designed to ensure “that the public is aware of its obligations as taxpayers and citizens of the territory,” according to Government Information Services. Seminars will be held on Tortola at the Cane Garden Bay Baptist Church at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday and 9 a.m. on Wednesday, followed by a session at the Sea Cows Bay Community Centre next Thursday at 6 p.m. The following week, sessions will be held at the Purcell Community Centre on June 25 at 6:30 p.m. and at the Long Trench Community Centre on June 27 at 6:30 p.m. Seminars on Jost Van Dyke, Anegada and Virgin Gorda have already been held.

HLSCC book

Fidel Captain, who lectures at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College’s Business and Computer Studies Department, has published the second edition of a book that teaches database design. Six-Step Relational Database Design was first published by the firm CreateSpace last year, aiming to bridge “the gaps between database theory, database modeling, and database implementation,” according to an HLSCC press release. The new edition of the book contains an additional chapter on relational database management systems and new questions at the end of the chapters explaining each of the six database design steps.
