Delta Petroleum will supply about 13 million gallons of diesel fuel to the BVI Electricity Corporation over the next four years for about $150 million, officials announced Tuesday morning at the BVIEC’s Long Bush offices.

The contract had to be signed Saturday before the Sunday expiration of the previous fuel contract after a “tough” negotiation, said Delta Managing Partner Vernon Lake.

Although Delta had submitted a lower price — $78 million for two years — than competing bidder Sol, BVIEC officials negotiating with Delta “came back and asked us to lower our price again, which we did,” Mr. Lake said.

This contract is the fifth to be awarded to Delta, said Bevis Sylvester, the company’s regional manager. He attributed the continuing contracts to the company’s prices.

“Prices win contracts,” Mr. Sylvester said. “Prices with good experience and storage in place: That is what win contracts.”

Mr. Abraham agreed that going with the lowest bid is a “no-brainer” for the BVIEC, adding that Delta has a good track record with the corporation.
