The BVI Lawn Tennis Association held it annual general meeting on June 15 and elected a new executive board.
The new board includes President Carol Mitchell, Vice President Judith Vanterpool, Financial Secretary Lenia Green, General Secretary Marsha Corea, Public Relations Officer Dionne Liverpool and Player Development Officer Patrick Mitchell.
The BVILA will now focus on several programmes and upcoming events that will help develop the junior ranking system and the national tennis team. The BVILA also hopes to improve some of the territory’s tennis infrastructure.
On July 6-30, there will be a free summer tennis camp at the Long Look/East End Tennis Courts. The camp will be for 6 to 10 year old players.
On June 12-14, several youth players from the Virgin Islands competed in a St. Thomas tournament.
Jahmal Bertic lost in the second round to Sky Moraino, who won both the boys 14 and 16 age group divisions.
Dmoni Green lost to Kevin Hughes in the boys 14 age group, but defeated Jaden Hughes in the boys 12 age group, 6-7, 7-6, 10-6. He finished with ten points for third.
Hash Banthia competed in the boys 14 and 16 age groups and lost both matches to Sky Moranino, 2-6, 3-6.
Adrian Baijanuth defeated Kevin Hughes, 7-6, 6-3, but lost to Sky Moraino, 6-7, 3-6.
