Cabinet has approved the reappointment of Russell Harrigan as chairman of the BVI Tourist Board until 2020, government announced Monday.

Mr. Harrigan, the majority owner and publisher of the Beacon, has held the position since 2011.

Also appointed to serve for the next four years are board members Julien Johnson, Clyde Lettsome, Denniston Fraser, Romney Penn, Sendrick Chinnery, Mike Rowe and Tanya Whistler.

Ex-officio members of the BVITB are the permanent secretary in the Premier’s Office and the managing director of the BVI Ports Authority.

The members are selected to represent various areas, including small property and resort development; culture; hotels; yachting; taxis; car rental management; aviation; and sports fishing, according to government.

Premier Dr. Orlando Smith said the Cabinet decision reflects the government’s confidence in the board of directors.

Dr. Smith has charged the board with growing tourism annually and offering a greater variety of activities and attractions, including museum tours, special events, cultural activities, historical sites and others.

The Tourist Board Ordinance provides for a board of up to 15 members to serve for a period of four years.
