North Sound residents and government officials gathered at the Owen G. Harrigan Visitor Centre for a ceremony to declare Gun Creek an official port of entry Friday morning.

Visitors arriving by boat can now clear customs and immigration in Virgin Gorda without going through Spanish Town. Officials said the move will be a boon for North Sound businesses like the Bitter End Yacht Club.

Premier Dr. Orlando Smith, who had announced in March that Gun Creek would get customs and immigration officials, repeated his hope that government’s investment will spur private investment in the area.

Dr. Smith later added that government is in discussions with seaplane companies that may want to operate flights into Gun Creek.
