If you’re not sure how to celebrate Earth Day, Conservation and Fisheries Department officials are inviting you to join them for a beach cleanup in Baughers Bay tomorrow.

Earth Day is celebrated internationally on April 22, but since that falls on Good Friday this year, local observances were moved up by a week.

The cleanup will be held in the Baughers Bay area and will start at 3 p.m. in the beach area adjacent to the Water and Sewerage Department. The cleanup will serve as the territory’s environmental service activity for Earth Day 2011, which is themed “A Billion Acts of Green.”

“Earth Day is a time when people around the world are reminded of the Earth’s importance and their shared responsibility as environmental stewards,” said Cynara Duncan, environmental education officer with the Conservation and Fisheries Department.

Individuals can register their “acts of green” on the global Earth Day website act.earthday.org, where as of yesterday afternoon, more than 80 million acts had been logged.
