Yellow and purple were the dominant colours at Cane Garden Bay on Monday as scores of students from the Ivan Dawson Primary School marched through the street.

The students chanted songs, danced and challenged each other as part of the school’s annual Commonwealth Day Parade.

The march began at the school, delayed by rain until about two hours after its 9 a.m. scheduled start time.

Members of the Althea Scatliffe Primary School Drum Corps drummed loudly, attracting the attention of residents and tourists, who quickly lined the streets.

Some observers chanted along with the students and encouraged them, while others took photographs and cheered.

“Who’s gonna win? Dawson’s gonna win,” students from Dawson House sang.

“Who’s gonna lose? Dawson is gonna lose,” students from Rhymer House responded.

Some of the students danced, waving yellow or purple pompoms.
