Police are cautioning church caretakers to be on the lookout for suspicious activity, as the last month has seen an increase in church burglaries.

According to the Police Information Office, two churches in East End and another in Carrot Bay were entered illegally, and an attempt to enter a church in Road Town was also reported.

Police added that on Oct. 28 a church in The Valley, Virgin Gorda, was also burglarised, and a toaster, a wicker chair and cleaning supplies were reportedly stolen.

“We are not sure the cause of this sudden upsurge in church burglaries except to say that it may be easier to access these facilities,” said acting Police Commissioner Alwin James.

Anyone with information that might assist in identifying the perpetrators can contact detectives within the Criminal Investigations Department through the access number 311. Information can also be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers through the Miami-based hotline 800-TIPS (8477).
