Collin Scatliffe doesn’t plan to get a lot of sleep in the next two weeks. But then again, a lot of people probably won’t.

The August Emancipation Festival, which officially begins tomorrow, promises to keep residents, visitors, vendors and performers busy with music, food, culture and celebration.

Mr. Scatliffe, the chairman of the Festival and Fairs Committee, said yesterday that most preliminary preparations have been made. Flags are hung. Booths are constructed at the Festival Village Grounds. The Coney Island rides have been assembled and tested and are ready for the official opening of the Festival tomorrow night.

“I am looking forward to an enjoyable, safe, peaceful and overall happy Festival,” Mr. Scatliffe said.

At tomorrow’s opening ceremony, the village will be officially named the Mighty Rockey Calypso Festiville in honour of a long-time VI calypsonian.
