Recognitions
• Tortola’s Sugar Mill Hotel was named the
“Best Small Hotel in the Caribbean” by Bloomberg Television, company officials said. At the International Hotel Awards at the Savoy Hotel in London, the property received the award for overall excellence, according to a press release from the hotel.
• Kenneth Krys, the founder of the insolvency firm KryS Global, was named a certified specialist in asset recovery, becoming one of only 53 people in the world to have earned the designation and the first in the Caribbean, according to the company. The CSAR designation is granted by the International Association for Asset Recovery and requires the successful completion of a four-hour exam, according to a KryS Global press release.
• The law firm Harneys formally launched the textbook British Virgin Islands Commercial Law on Jan. 17 in Hong Kong, the firm announced. The textbook, which bills itself as the “first and only” publication focusing on Virgin Islands law, was written and edited by the firm’s lawyers, several of whom work at Harneys’ VI office.
Relocations
• The offices of government’s Training Division are scheduled to be closed until tomorrow morning while the office is moved from the Ward Building to the Betteto Frett Building, according to Government Information Services. The new offices will re-open Monday at the new location above Little Switzerland on Wickhams Cay, according to GIS.
Career changes
• Jonathan Culshaw, a lawyer who advises clients on matters related to VI and Cayman Islands hedge, venture capital and private equity funds, joined the Hong Kong office of Harneys as a partner on Jan. 3, the firm announced. Previously, Mr. Culshaw worked for law firms in London and the Cayman Islands, according to Harneys.
