How should Josiahs Bay be developed?

That was the question posed to residents of the area Tuesday night at a public meeting hosted by the Town and Country Planning Department at the East End/Long Look Community Centre.

Chief Planner Gregory Adams said community feedback will be used to implement a development plan for the area.

Many attendees opposed major changes like bringing commercial or industrial elements to the small community.

“Keep Josiahs Bay residential,” declared Collingston George, receiving a round of applause from the room of nearly 100 people.

Mr. George added that zoning laws need to be passed in order to protect Josiahs Bay from unwanted development.

In an interview after the meeting, Mr. Adams explained that the community’s input would help his department devise a development plan for Josiahs Bay.

If and when that plan is approved by lawmakers, it would serve as a guide for the TCPD in deciding what development projects to approve, he said.
