When Dylan Penn was a boy, he often heard his father Gary Penn play reggae and calyspo music, including the songs of Jamaicans Eric Donaldson and Pluto Shervington.

On Saturday, he was taken down memory lane as he watched the performers sing at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College.

“Miserable woman, woman you too miserable,” Mr. Penn sang along with nearly 400 people who showed up for the first concert in the college’s 20th Performing Arts Series.

The audience sang along with both reggae veterans as they performed their hits from the 1960s and 1970s.

“It was good music, and good music is good music no matter the time and generation,” Mr. Penn said as he left the auditorium after the show.

Organisers were pleased with the turnout, said series director Linnette Baa.

“We had a very full house,” Ms. Baa said. “I think this is a great start to the season.”
