Police Constable Jermaine Brewley, a Virgin Islander, appeared Wednesday before the Magistrates’ Court, which was set up at Road Town Police Station, charged with handling stolen goods, according to the Police Information Office.

He appeared alongside his wife, Jamaica native Shannon Brewley, and Jamaica native Keisha Stewart, all from Sea Cows Bay.

The trio were granted bail until Jan. 19.

Following this appearance, Mr. Brewley was officially placed on enforced leave while an interdiction order is sought, according to police.

“As I have stated before, I will forcefully and publicly deal with anyone who is charged with looting or any offence related to looting,” Police Commissioner Michael Matthews said. “Today, unfortunately and shamefully, it is one within the ranks of [Royal Virgin Islands Police Force]. Nevertheless, I make no exceptions. Police officers found breaking the law will also be dealt with robustly. He will go before the court as all others and his innocence or guilt will be determined there.”

The RVIPF is encouraging anyone with photos or videos of looters to provide them to the police Intelligence Unit, which can be reached at 368-9339.
