A constable has been interdicted from duty as police investigate a report of an attempt to smuggle contraband into His Majesty’s Prison on July 5, police said.

As part of the investigation, the constable was arrested for questioning and released pending further investigation, according to a July 7 press release from the Police Information Office.

The release did not provide more information about the alleged smuggling or name the officer, but it noted that he was interdicted “immediately.”

Now, the police force is coordinating with prison authorities to progress the investigation, police said.

“The public will be given further updates as needed in due course,” the release stated, adding, “Acting Police Commissioner Jacqueline Vanterpool wishes to assure the public of the [force’s] commitment to the investigation and prosecution of any malfeasance committed by its members or any other member of the public service.”
