By June most of the officers in the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force should have participated in an Investigative Skills Course, according to David Winter, the retired United Kingdom police officer who is facilitating the training.

The first cohort of 16 officers graduated on Friday, and Mr. Winter is to teach more courses to others in the coming months.

During the training, the participants were taken through the basics of investigation based on internationally accepted standards, the instructor said.

Some aspects of the training required officers to investigate mock crime scenes, acting as witnesses, prosecutors, defence attorneys or victims, according to Mr. Winter.
