Nearly 80 percent of Virgin Islands students who sat the region’s biggest secondary-level English exam in May or June earned what the Ministry of Education is calling a “successful” grade of one, two or three.

Sixty-seven percent of those who sat the Caribbean Examinations Council’s Secondary Education Certificate mathematics exam were also successful, as were 98 percent of students who sat the integrated science exam and 90 percent of those who sat the social studies exam, according to results announced by Education and Culture Minister Myron Walwyn on Monday.

The CXC sent results to local registrars on Friday.

In his remarks, Mr. Walwyn congratulated students on their performance, and urged teachers and students to do their best to prepare for the transition to having all fifth formers in the territory sit the CSEC by the 2013-2014 school year.
