When she was in her 20s, Janis Jobsz attended parties at friends’ homes almost every Friday.

Now a senior citizen, she plays old-school music and dances while cleaning her house on Saturdays.

“I still love to dance, but I do it my way,” Ms. Jobsz said. “Back in the day, we didn’t have too many night clubs. Today it is different.”

On Friday, however, she was taken back in time during the Bingo and Oldies Night organised by the BVI Heritage Dancers at Sand Box Bar in Lower Estate.

Ms. Jobsz was among nearly 20 residents who played bingo while listening to old-school songs by calypsonian Mighty Sparrow, reggae artist Eric Donaldson, and other Caribbean artists.

The event was held to raise funds for the completion of the BVI Heritage Dancers’ building at Johns Hole, said the group’s founder, Eileene Parsons.

Completing the facility, including a wooden floor and other finishing touches, will cost around $50,000 to $70,000, Ms. Parsons said.
