An eight-member Virgin Islands delegation recently particpated in the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Gams in Douglas, Isle of Man last week.

The team was led by Angeleta Bernard and consisted of coaches and athletes: Shaquil Samuel (cycling – road race), Tarique “Tweety” Moses (400 metres), Shaquoy Stephens (100 metres and 200 metres), Natisha Claxton (400 metres), Chenaki Samuel Rojas (400 metres), Clifton “Tito” Forbes (cycling coach), Winston Potter (athletics coach) and Ms. Bernard (team leader).

Although the athletes didn’t bring home any medals, the team leader is optimistic that the experience will pay dividends for the athletes in the future.

“I hope the team’s disappointing performances will serve as springboards for hardwork and better performances in the future,” Ms. Bernard said.

She added that she was thankful that the BVI Olympic Committee supported the delegration.

“The experience for all was great and the organisation was excellent,” Ms. Bernard said.
