Eighteen minutes after the Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Service received a call early Friday about a boat on fire, four officers put out the flames, Chief Fire Officer Zebalon McLean said on Tuesday.

The agency received the report at 1:35 a.m., and by 1:40 four fire officers aboard a fire truck had arrived at the HR Penn Marina in Road Town, where the burning boat was moored, Mr. McLean said.

By 1:53 a.m., the flames were out, Mr. McLean said.

The fire chief added that no one was aboard the boat or in the vicinity of the fire, and none of the officers were injured.

He said that the cause of the fire is unknown, but an investigation is ongoing.

“We can’t say at this time,” Mr. McLean said.
