Santo Yamarco Hernandez, 38, a Dominican Republic national facing a charge of murder for allegedly killing Alston Penn, appeared at the Magistrates’ Court on Friday for a reporting date on his case.

With the assistance of a translator, Mr. Hernandez told Magistrate Ayanna Baptiste-DaBreo that he does not have a defence attorney, but said he recently applied for legal aid.

He was then instructed to return for another reporting date on July 7.

The Spring Ghut resident, who was denied bail at his April 4 court appearance, remains on remand.

Mr. Penn, 39, was pronounced dead at 6:37 a.m. on March 10 after his body was found on Windy Hill Road.

An autopsy report later confirmed that Mr. Penn died from blunt force trauma to the head, according to police reports.
