Police continue to crack down on traffic violations, issuing 51 tickets and seizing five scooters on Friday alone, they said.

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force targeted traffic violators across Tortola that day, ticketing 33 drivers for not wearing seatbelts, according to a Monday press release.

Five people were ticketed for riding motorbikes without helmets, eight others for driving while using a cell phone.

Twelve people were ticketed for violations ranging from driving unlicensed vehicles to using prohibited tints, and one person was ticketed for stopping alongside another vehicle while in traffic, the release stated.

The familiar practice of stopping in the roadways to converse is a ticketable offence with a fine of $100, said Kishon Leslie, acting sergeant of the Road Policing Unit.
