Akeem Durrant, 35, of Belle Vue, was charged with murder in the shooting death of Corey Butler on the night of June 21, Police Information Officer Diane Drayton stated on Friday.

Ms. Drayton added that Mr. Durrant was also charged with robbery and possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply, and was scheduled to appear before Magistrates’ Court at the next available sitting.

On Monday, however, Mr. Durrant’s case came before the court but was delayed until a future date.

Mr. Butler was shot near Scatliffe Alley at around 6:30 p.m. on June 21, and he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Dr. Orlando Smith Hospital with an apparent gunshot wound to the body, Ms. Drayton stated on June 22.

The killing was the third fatal shooting this year.

Le’Shaughn Arr Smith was pronounced dead following a Huntums Ghut shooting on Feb. 24, and Jaquan Thomas was allegedly shot and killed outside a residential area in Little Apple Bay on Jan. 30.
