The Legends beat Raw Power in four sets on Saturday night at the Multi-purpose Sports Complex to advance to the finals of the BVI Amateur Volleyball Association’s Power League.

Debra Dagou of the Legends said “togetherness” is what helped her team when the semi-final match, despite most of the players being sick.

“We had some players missing, but we just brought it together and did what we had to do,” Ms. Dagou said.

In the men’s division, Raw Power forfeited to the Terminators after not fielding a team by game time. The Terminators will now face Just Dream in the finals scheduled for this weekend. The women’s semi-final started on time with most of the players from both teams showing up early.

“We were ready to play,” Ms. Dagou said.

The Legends team has been playing for “awhile,” hence the name, she said.

“I can’t remember the years,” Ms. Dagou said. “We have been playing together for a long time.”

She added that her service game was working the best, but she didn’t get “much hits.”

The Legends will now face Phoenix Red in the finals on Saturday.

“We met this team twice in the series and we won both games,” Ms. Dagou said. “We are just going in to win next week.”

Alicia Penn of Raw Power said her team started out a “little slow,” but by midway through the match the team started to play with more “energy.”

“Our spirits got down a bit,” Ms. Penn said. “We were trying to hype up ourselves at points and we did — I think we needed to stay more positive and play together.”

She added that Raw Power is a “newer” team with a combination of veteran and rookie players. The team didn’t practise much together, but Ms. Penn was happy with how the season progressed.

“I think overall playing together for the first time we did very well for coming together as a scrap team,” Ms. Penn said. “I think we gave a good effort.”

Saturday was Raw Power’s last game for the season.

“Hopefully we will be back next year,” she said.
