Martin “Tony” Alphonso, a well-known Guyanese businessman, was injured in a vehicular accident in Fish Bay last Thursday afternoon, according to multiple news outlets and information provided by police.

A video circulating on social media depicts a man kneeling down and pressing a bandage to Mr. Alphonso’s head, while bystanders gather around, apparently trying to help.

In the video clip Mr. Alphonso’s face and forearms appear to be stained with blood, which had pooled on the concrete behind his head.

Asked about the incident, Police Information Officer Akia Thomas said, “I can confirm a report of an accident in Fish Bay after 3 p.m. [last Thursday].”

Ms. Thomas added, “Details surrounding the accident are unclear. However, one male was transported to the Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital for treatment. The investigation is ongoing.”
