Police think the man found dead in his Road Town hotel room on July 1 may have been murdered, according to Police Information Officer Diane Drayton.

Police officers responded to the scene around 4:30 p.m. the day of the incident, and the man was pronounced dead shortly thereafter, Ms. Drayton said.

His name was unknown at the time, but he has since been identified as Yeiral Batista Sena, 32, of the Dominican Republic.

An autopsy is to be performed to determine the cause of death, according to Ms. Drayton.

Major Crime Detectives believe that the victim travelled from St. Thomas and had plans to fly to the DR the day he was found dead.

The information officer said a man was arrested and questioned, but later released pending further enquiries.

Mr. Sena’s family has been informed of the death, and the coroner is being kept updated, she added.

People with information that could assist the investigation can call the Major Crime Team at 468-5682, the police access number 311, or the Intelligence Unit at 468-9339, Ms. Drayton said.

Tips can also be provided anonymously through the Miami-based Crime Stoppers hotline, 800-8477.
