Four people have been charged in connection with two firearms and multiple rounds of ammunition seized during search operations in Cane Garden Bay early on the morning of Friday, Jan. 24, police said.

Charged with keeping a firearm without a licence and unlawful possession of explosives are Kadeem and Kaheem Callwood, both 22-year-old Cane Garden Bay residents; Jerry Smith, 22, of the United States Virgin Islands; and a 17-year-old male residing in Cane Garden Bay, according to a press release issued last Thursday by the Police Information Office.

Mr. Smith was also charged with overstaying his landing permit, police said.

Bail offers

The Callwoods each were offered bail of $60,000, but due to the absence of a surety they were remanded to His Majesty’s Prison in Balsam Ghut, according to the press release. Mr. Smith was also remanded, but the 17-year-old was granted bail of $50,000.

All four accused are scheduled to return the Magistrates’ Court on March 5, police said.

Acting Police Commissioner Jacqueline Vanterpool commended the officers involved in the operation.

“The removal of these firearms from our streets is a significant step in making our communities safer,” she said in the press release. “I commend the officers for their professionalism and dedication in this operation and in all other efforts to reduce violent crime in the territory.”
