Family Support Network, the Virgin Islands charitable organisation that helps families dealing with domestic violence, was almost taken down recently by what Board of Directors Chair Judith Charles called a “perfect storm” of financial and other challenges.

But thanks largely to a donation from the BVI London House, the FSN was able to recover and continue serving the community, Ms. Charles said at a press conference Monday.

Ms. Charles reached out to Kedrick Malone, head of the BVI London House, last year, Mr. Malone said.

Each year, the London House works with the Friends of the BVI, a group in the United Kingdom headed by former VI governor Frank Savage, to hold a silent auction as a fundraiser for a community group in the territory.

The 2012 fundraiser netted $26,000, which already has been turned over to the FSN, Mr. Malone said during the press conference.

He also gave reporters an update on the London House’s activities for 2012 and some of its plans for 2013.
