A man was shot multiple times during a robbery attempt at about 10 p.m. Saturday at Domino service station in Baughers Bay, police said.

The business’s proprietor, Bob Pickering, is believed to have received three gunshot wounds to the upper body, according to a statement issued by the Police Information Office.

Mr. Pickering was taken to Peebles Hospital before being flown overseas Sunday morning for further treatment. He is in critical but stable condition, police said.

Initial investigations indicate that a gunman wearing a “scooter helmet over his head and face” approached the proprietor while he was in his vehicle outside the front door of the station and tried to take the day’s proceeds.

He allegedly fired several shots before leaving the scene on a dark-coloured motor scooter. Besides the proprietor, no one was injured, and no money was taken, police said.

Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to call the police Intelligence Unit at 468-9339, the Special Investigation Unit at 468-2718, or the anonymous Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-8477.
