There was a lot of crying during Pelican Gate’s annual sports day at the A.O. Shirley Recreation Grounds last Friday.   But after several tears were shed, most of the participants walked away with either a smile or a ribbon.

The West End school holds its sports day each year, but it was the first time it was held on the rubberised track.

More than 60 students from 1 ½ to four years old participated in the sports day.

The participants were divided up into different teams, which included Waddlers, Centipedes, Bumble Bees, Scorpions, Teddy Bears and Pelicans.

The events were lighthearted which included flat races, bunny races, fill the bucket with water and needle and thread.

“The early you start them, the more they will get involved in sports,” Preschool teacher Cutelin Buteler said.“The earlier the better.”
